Terrorist deportation bill passes first reading in Knesset.
A bill that would allow Israel to deport the family members of terrorists passed its first reading in the Knesset Wednesday. Sponsored by Bayit Yehudi MK Moti Yogev with backing from Education Minister Naftali Bennett, the bill would allow the army to expel family members of a terrorist from their home, by removing them from their town or city, or demarcating an area in which they are not allowed to enter.

The Knesset approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s appointment as defense minister on Monday evening after opposition MKs spoke out against the appointment for nearly three hours.

The European Commission will publish its no-deal contingency plans on Wednesday – an attempt to mitigate the damage if the UK crashes out of the EU. The proposals are designed to limit disruption in certain key areas, such as finance and transport, if Brexit goes ahead in March without a deal. As PM Theresa May’s proposed exit plan flounders in parliament, both sides are preparing for the worst-case scenario.

European Union diplomatic communications ‘targeted by hackers’. Hackers successfully targeted the European Union’s diplomatic communications over a period of several years, The New York Times reports. Thousands of messages were intercepted in which diplomats referenced a range of subjects from US President Donald Trump to global trade. The breach was reportedly discovered by the cyber-security company Area 1.

Syria war: Russia, Iran and Turkey fail to agree on new constitution body. Talks in Geneva on setting up a constitutional committee for Syria have ended without a clear outcome. The foreign ministers of Russia, Iran and Turkey attended the United Nations-sponsored talks to build a sustainable peace in the country, but failed to agree on the committee’s makeup. The UN says more work needs to be done before it is set up.

US pledges $10.6B aid for Central America, southern Mexico
The United States pledged $5.8 billion in aid and investment Tuesday for strengthening government and economic development in Central America, and another $4.8 billion in development aid for southern Mexico. The U.S aid aims to promote better security conditions and job opportunities as part of a regional plan to allow Central Americans and Mexicans to remain in their countries and not have to emigrate.

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday rejected the U.S. claim that Russia developed a new cruise missile in violation of a key nuclear treaty, arguing that Russia has no need for such a land-based weapon because it already has similar missiles on its ships and aircraft. Washington warned this month it would suspend its obligations under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) in 60 days if Russia did not return to full compliance.

Netanyahu: UN must act against Hezbollah tunnels
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday urged the United Nations Security Council to take action against Hezbollah tunnels dug from Lebanon under the Israeli border. Speaking ahead of a Security Council session on the issue, Netanyahu said UNIFIL, the UN presence in Lebanon, should be granted “unrestrained access to any area in southern Lebanon,” where the Iranian-backed Hezbollah has traditionally operated unfettered.
